About Me

Marcin Kwiatkowski - System Architect and Requirements Engineer working on safety-related railway and automotive systems

Requirements and systems engineer with a solid background in software engineering. Since 2013 I have worked on safety-related railway signalling (ERTMS/ETCS) projects, taking roles from software developer and product owner to system engineer, requirements manager and team leader, and since 2022 also on automotive systems with ASPICE. Today I work as a system architect at ELESTER. I enjoy leading teams and helping team members grow their competencies.

Professional background

The areas I work in most:

  • Railway systems: ERTMS/ETCS signalling, CENELEC EN 50126, EN 50128 and EN 50129
  • Automotive systems: ASPICE at system (SYS) level, ISO 26262 functional safety
  • Requirements management: End-to-end requirements engineering in IBM DOORS and IBM Jazz
  • System architecture: Safety concepts, functional and physical architecture
  • Safety analysis: FMEA, FTA, technical safety concepts, traceability
  • Technical leadership: Team leadership, product backlog ownership, bid and tender documentation

Career timeline

I started as a junior software engineer on ERTMS signalling projects and moved step by step into product ownership, team leadership, system engineering and business analysis.

Technical skills

Architecture and design: System architecture, requirements management, FMEA/FTA, UML, ASPICE, CENELEC

Programming: C/C++, Python, TCL/Expect, Bash, REST APIs

Tools: IBM DOORS, IBM Jazz, Git, Gerrit

Ways of working: Agile/Scrum, product ownership, team leadership, bid preparation

Own projects

In my spare time I build tools around requirements and diagnostics, such as ALM OS, ReqManTool, RBC_Template, LogViewer and CAN Pro-Decoder. See the portfolio

Education

Bachelor of Engineering in Electronic Engineering (Multimedia Systems and Communications), Wrocław University of Technology, 2009-2013.

How I work

Safety and reliability have to be designed into a system from the start, not added at the end. Clear, verifiable requirements, consistent traceability and careful architecture work are what make that possible.
